Our skin is a big deal. It’s the largest organ in the body and one of the most complicated. It has many roles in the maintenance of life and health. Not only does the skin hold everything in, it also plays a crucial role in providing an airtight, watertight and flexible barrier. It also helps with temperature regulation, immune defense, vitamin production, and sensation. So it makes sense that we should want to look after it in our self care routines, right?
So what exactly do I do? Well it just depends on the day and how I feel! On my journey to better health inside and out, I have bought some simple tools, that have helped me reclaim brighter, acne free skin! (For the most part at least, because I am human!) And what better time in your cycle to try out something new, then in your follicular phase. It’s when your confidence will be higher, your skin clearer, and your creative juices flowing – so maintenance for your skin is a must.
One of those tools, is simply a body brush. A body brush isn’t going to cost you too much, and the benefits include: stimulating the lymphatic system, exfoliating the skin, helping the body rid itself of toxins and increasing circulation and energy.
Now you can most certainly do this by yourself, BUT, I most enjoy this practice with my partner. Being able to fully relax into the experience, and have someone look after you is embodying your feminine energy, and trust me, it feels so luscious being truly cared for.
When it comes to the skin on my face, I like to use tools such as a Gua Sha or facial roller. These are generally made from crystals, and feel so luxurious on the skin.
Benefits of this practice include:
· Drains lymphatic fluid (which is often filled with toxins and waste) out of the cells being cleansed.
· Lifting & tightening
· Aids in elimination of dark circles under the eyes.
· Improves skincare product absorption
· Improves blood circulation
· Eliminates & improves the appearance
of wrinkles& fine lines.
Now I tell you, as a mumma to 3 beautiful children, I need all of these benefits and more! Haha.
But seriously, starting or ending your day with a little self care routine can make all the difference, not only for your skin, but your mindset too. I say it all the time, that you need to fill your own cup, before you can serve others from the overflow. Feeling like you are well taken care of will change your day, and help you manage stress that little bit easier too. Small steps of self care is about reducing our toxic load, reducing stress, and balancing our hormones in the process.
Having a balanced lifestyle & hormones isn’t about a quick fix, instead it’s about taking the time every single day to improve your lifestyle. You don't expect to get muscles the very first time you try doing a weights workout - its the same with your hormones. It takes work, every single day.
So what will you implement this week to benefit your future?
